Will Beavis and Butt-head Continue UPDATE!
Well, we can all thank Eric the Midget for this info. Beavis and Butt-head of course returned late last year (October 2011) with 12 new episodes. Come 2012, we had yet to hear what the status of the show was. Would it return for another season? Mike Judge, prior to the new season last year, said that he was up for at least two seasons. Keeping in mind that MTV moves at a snails pace (it took them 9 months to announce when B&B would begin airing new episodes), it made sense that a new season was most likely in production, but we wouldn’t get confirmation until the last possible minute.
Now, for what we’ve just learned….
Eric the Midget, excuse me, the Actor, interviewed Mike Judge for Howard 100 at Ronnie’s block party. When asked if B&B would return, Judge said that MTV’s demographics were 12-14 year old girls, and that they were trying to sell the show (B&B) to other networks. Hmm, MTV airs the trashiest shit around, and they’re looking to tap into the 12-14 year old girl market? That says a lot about our culture. Judge added that other networks were/are interested, but MTV ‘moves slow.’
The show received typical cartoon ratings, although the premiere episode received some of the highest the network had seen in a number of years. Remember, the network decided to only do online viral marketing. That saved them a lot of money, and they still received a great result.
MTV is owned by Viacom, which also owns Comedy Central. CC would probably be a better fit for the show, IMHO. Too bad they couldn’t get the rights to “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” for the boys to riff on, or could they? E!’s “The Soup” gets to show clips from that show, but E! is not owned by Viacom.
There’s also Cartoon Network. The show could be added to Adult Swim. Fans have been screaming for the show to get moved to another network. CN isn’t own by Viacom, but perhaps they would agree to license the show to them. Viacom owns MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET, Spike, Logo, and a few others. Maybe Spike would be a good fit too.
The critical and public response to the revival last year was stellar! There’s no reason why B&B shouldn’t continue. I can’t believe it’ll be one year next month since the first new episode aired. It was a parody of “Twilight”.
What are your thoughts on any/all of this?
